amNY Watch: A Big Answer

Rather than pick on am New York itself this week, I’m going to go after an even easier target:

Wanda, Wanda, Wanda, you’re sadly mistaken. We New Yorkers aren’t rude. You’re fat, and you’re in our way.

That’s a true story. People always say that when they visit the city all of the locals are rude to them. I wonder why that is? I can’t imagine you’d like it if we came to your hometown and did the following: stopped in the middle of the sidewalk to stare up at the shiny building, actually engaged those motherfuckers trying to sell you stand-up comedy, seemed completely unaware that some people here “work,” and don’t just buy I heart NY t-shirts all day.

Thank God tourists come to the city, for that’s one of the reasons it does so well. But don’t be surprised if you hear me belittling one for getting in my way.

Ahem… merry christmas and the like.

  2. LMAO. Thanks EVI. When I visited NYC I found the people to be in two groups: the helpful and polite and educated and charming, and those who are so involved in their own world that day to day pleasantries are lost on them. NYC is like Mr. Rogers compared to the rudeness found in Chicago. Those people are… not so nice, especially in the North Shore, where they run you over. It’s like, they see a person in the cross walk and they speed up and just go around you. Even in NYC most cars will stop and let you cross or you go whenever you want and the cars have to swerve to miss you. In Chicago, it’s like being in a video game and the prize is to kill as many people in cross walks as possible.

  3. Amusingly enough, this post only makes me want to go to college in New York more.
